A native
of Beverly Hills, California, Dr. Koplin attended the University
of California at Berkeley, graduating with honors and Phi Beta Kappa
in 1972. His medical studies were at the Baylor College of Medicine
in Houston, where he trained with noted heart surgeons Dr. Michael
DeBakey and Dr. Denton Cooley. He holds double board certification
in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery, having completed a full
five-year general surgery residency prior to beginning his specialization
in plastic surgery. His final two years of plastic surgery residency
were in Houston where he acquired extensive experience in the treatment
of children with birth defects, multiple reconstructive techniques,
and a wide range of cosmetic procedures. This includes his training
with Dr. Thomas Cronin, developer of the silicone breast implant,
where he received specialized experience in all aspects of breast
surgery, including augmentation (placement of implants), reduction
and reconstruction after mastectomy. His published articles cover
multiple topics including the treatment of skin cancer and several
book chapters on surgical treatment of the aging face.
Dr. Koplin continues to be an innovator, striving to achieve "natural" surgical
improvement in facial and body rejuvenation, in the integration of
art, imagination and superb technical skill to produce truly unique
results. This often includes multiple "smaller" changes rather
than singular "obvious" ones, and, most recently, the development
and refinement of techniques involving deep layer facial rejuvenation,
lower eyelid and "cheek lift" and fat transfer procedures
for facial wrinkles which combine to give fabulously natural results
specific to the individual patient. He treats a wide spectrum of patients,
male and female, from teens to seventies, secretaries to celebrities,
in a professional atmosphere of privacy and pampering. His current
areas of specialization include breast (enlargement and reduction),
body sculpting through liposuction, rejuvenation of the aging face,
neck and eyelids, and surgery of the nose. He also enjoys occasional
trips to South and Central America where he participates in the care
of children in need, and assists in the training of local plastic surgeons.
