Dr. Koplin – Pioneering a New and Better Result for Face Lifts

Attention to detail, expertise in surgical technique, and pioneering work in the area of Natural Fat Transfer sets Dr. Koplin apart from other surgeons. Dr. Koplin is one of the original practitioners of Natural Fat Transfer, also called fat-grafting. For nearly 20 years, he has provided fuller, healthier and more youthful results with his specialized Natural Fat Transfer techniques. This procedure transfers fat from unwanted areas of your body, such as the abdomen or thighs, to facial areas that have lost fat and their youthful contours. Dr. Koplin shapes and sculpts the face; filling in areas that have thinned with age, such as temples, cheeks, eye hollows, and the jaw line. This technique, in combination with face lift surgery, produces truly natural results never achieved with “pulling” alone which can create a “wind tunnel” effect. Compare our before and after facelift photos to those of other surgeons and you will clearly see the difference in our results.

The Face Lift Consultation with Dr. Koplin

A personal consultation is your first step when considering face lift surgery. During this initial meeting, Dr. Koplin will assess your physical and emotional health, and discuss your specific cosmetic goals for surgery. He will appraise your bone and deep tissue structure, consider your skin’s thickness, texture and elasticity, and recommend a specific, custom plan for you. He’ll also discuss any issues that could make surgery more complicated, like uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood-clotting problems, or the tendency to form excessive scars.

State-of-the-Art Operating Facility

Your custom procedure will be performed in a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility associated with our medical office. We are fully accredited by Medicare and AAAASF, and are held to the same standards as an operating room in a private or university hospital.

Your Face Lift Surgical Procedure

General anesthesia is the gold standard for this operation. Under this type of anesthesia, you are fully asleep; there is no pain and no awareness. Safety and comfort are paramount. Your anesthesia provider has a wealth of experience in facial procedures, safety, and care. You will spend one to two hours in a fully-monitored and state-of-the art recovery room at the surgery center. Your registered nurse will be at your side every moment to attend to your safety and comfort.

Face Lift Recovery and Convalescence

We usually require two nights of recovery at a local facility, where staff will attend to all your needs during the critical 48 hours following your procedure. They’ll provide a hospital bed with head elevation, cold compresses around the clock, all meals and administration of all appropriate medications. They will also pick you up from our recovery room, drive you to your postoperative appointments, and even wash your hair in a salon-style sink. From years of experience, we’ve learned that each day in a skilled facility shortens your overall recovery by a week! Once you return home, our customized instruction sheets will guide you in continuing your care until you are 100% recovered.

What to expect the first two weeks after face lift surgery:

Day 1- Face lift Surgery
Day 2- Visit our office for a checkup and dressing change. Often, there are no more bandages beyond this point!
Day 3- You’ll return home. You may shower and wash your own hair!
Day 4- Visit our office, where we’ll begin suture removal, starting with all visible areas.
Day 5 & 6- You can relax at home
Day 7- We’ll remove half of all your sutures during an office visit.
Day 8 & 9- You can increase your activities at home. You’ll be able to walk outside, visit with friends, and even drive your car.
Day 10- During an office visit, we’ll remove all remaining sutures. Most bruising is either resolved or hidden. You most likely can wear makeup at this point.

Return to work and normal activities

Most patients experience no pain and minimal discomfort from the procedure. Many are back to work after two weeks, though you may want to take a third week if you are in the public eye. If you’re fortunate enough to work from home, you can get right back to the computer and telephone as long as you don’t overdo things. Almost everyone may begin aerobic exercise and stretching two weeks after the procedure.

Return to full activities

You may be amazed to be back in the world after only three weeks –working, exercising, and returning to most normal activities. You’ll have no pain, but a feeling of tightness around the chin and neck is a good reminder of your recent corrective work. Numbness of the ears, cheeks and neck may take many months to completely resolve. We will follow you during this time, with weekly visits that quickly become monthly. During this time, we will constantly advise you about workouts, activity, skin care, and any other questions you may have.

Will I need this procedure again?

Hopefully not! The technique as performed by Dr. Koplin is all-encompassing, with the goal of a truly long-lasting, natural result. Unfortunately, time and gravity are not always our friends; therefore, some form of touchup may be appropriate in the future. Loss of “baby fat” and thinning of the face are the most common long-term issues. These can usually, and very easily, be corrected by small sessions of Natural Fat Transfer to appropriate areas as necessary. Happily, we promise “lifetime” follow-ups without charge, where we’ll gladly consult with you and discuss any questions you may have. You also have our promise that we will use the smallest and simplest solution possible.
